Misanthropic Anthropoids and the Dehumanization of Man (Part I of III)
By: Pierce G.

It is possible that the final page is being written in the history of human relations. In a world where we have the capacity to use our technological resources to bring us closer together, those same resources are systematically driving us apart. One foot is here, solidly planted on the foundation of understanding and respect that the philosophers and great men and women of history have created for us. A foundation that wars were fought for, freedoms were created, destroyed and created anew, a foundation that is imperative to the existence of our race as a whole. The other foot however, is in the mass grave that will soon read, “humanity,” a grave that will lack an epitaph, for the gravediggers and undertakers will not even have enough compassion to write it. The fact is, that we are being systematically dehumanized, and we are allowing it to happen. Perhaps not on an individual basis, but on the majority rules basis of the many. The first essay of this series will focus on what allegedly brings us closer together, the second a commentary of the breaking down of the human will, and the third and final essay, my epitaph that I am writing for humanity ahead of time.

There are many potential assets that could bring us closer together as a people, that further assist in driving us apart. For example, the fearmongering news media and its minions of darkness and misanthropy. The media as we know it is used as a tool to create suspicion, hatred, fear, and all of the negative reactions that result in one thing for those in power, control. The easiest way to dehumanize someone is to use fear as a resource. Fear is the founding for emotions such as distrust and anger, without it, those who wish to control humanity would be powerless. We hear about the assassinations, the wars, the molestations, the rapes, the kidnappings, but when do we hear of the struggle and the persistence of those who wish to only contribute positively to the world? The answer is, rarely, but why? Because, “Man arrives home safely from work and kisses his wife and daughter before making a modest donation to the ‘save the children’ fund,” is not newsworthy, it does not draw advertising dollars and it does not make us see the bad. Naturally, there are some positive stories on the news, and the reason for that is to conceal the ultimate goal of fear mongering. There was a news commercial out a year or so ago where a man walked into an elevator and held his daughter’s hand, the tagline, “If you suspect abuse don’t be afraid to tell somebody." The fact is that humans, as individuals, are now guilty until proven innocent. I remember commenting on what pretty eyes a little girl had to her parents, she beamed and blushed and said, “Thank you.” The parents were instantly enveloped with alarm because what kind of degenerate monster would pay a little girl an innocent compliment to see her smile? Their alarm faded when I explained that I had a child of my own on the way, now we had something in common, now, I was innocent. In a split second, I was an evil child molester who would break into their hotel room late at night and kidnap their daughter, the next moment, I was a proud father to be looking forward to the birth of his child.

It is the Internet that gives me the means to be presenting this commentary of society to you, which is ironic, because the Internet is one of the negative aspects being pointed out in this comment of society. The Internet ties in perfectly with the news media, because it gives an outlet of somewhat human content without being in person, thus, fear is reduced. This could be our chance to start relating to one another again, but in my experience the majority of the time, it is used to disparage people and disrespect them in ways that many would be afraid to do in person. The reason that people would choose to do this is because they get off on picturing the shock on people’s faces when they disparage and berate a complete stranger. We have the opportunity to shrink the world down to a place where emotions such as respect and admiration can be expressed without fear and embarrassment and we are using it instead to create the same hatred we could use it to avoid. The question is, are human beings naturally hateful? Nurture takes nature in this one, I’m afraid. Once again, it comes back to the news media and its fearless slew of the negative aspects of humanity because only the most shocking or superficial things draw the advertising dollars.

The funny aspect is, I don’t blame the people for these things. The fact of the matter is, this works only on the weak-minded and most people who are weak-minded cannot help but be what they are. The ones who have the capacity not to be weak-minded and choose to be blissfully ignorant anyway, have simply failed. People are in dissent, but don’t know what they are dissenting, they have an opinion to voice, but lack the knowledge of how to speak, they wish to act, yet feel only passive acceptance will result in a happy life. If we accept what happens, they believe, then we will be in peace and thus happy. But, humans must realize that being quiet will not result in happiness, it will result in the further opinion-oppression that we have already experienced, and will continue to experience unless something is changed. Majority rule and passive acceptance are synonymous and will remain so until those with the know-how speak.

Where do us philosophers of the modern-day come in? There will come a time when humanity has been dissolved to a slippery ooze of what it once represented, a puddle that reflects where the first cells were combined. Only this time, the cells will split further and further apart, until the human brain is nothing but a single-celled, easily entertained yet simultaneously petrified shadow of its former self. In short, most people will have completely lost the ability to think abstractly, and even though time will persist, there will cease to be a vision of the future. We modern-day philosophers must come in now, we must speak, we must give our opinions, voice our analysis, and do everything but force people to think of what is being thrown in their collective face. Otherwise, the second foot slowly lowers itself into an even more ominous grave.
