Listen To These Songs Now!
By: Wilson Henry Gooden

Certainly music is subjective. Certainly you may not agree with me that these are three great songs. But hopefully even if you do not you are able to open your ear and to understand what I love about these songs. This is what music appreciation is all about really.

Stereolab - "Miss Modular" - Stereolab is one of the most influential and important bands of the past 20 years and this track "Miss Modular" is one of their most known and best songs. It's taken from their masterpiece 1997 album Dots and Loops. This is one of the greatest songs in the history of pop in my opinion. It's got a wonderful horn arrangement, a catchy beat, and of course a beautiful vocal performance. As with all Stereolab music you will get the best experience by listening on headphones. Stereolab is one of the ultimate headphone bands because of their studio perfectionism. "Miss Modular" is pure polish, pure sound candy. I suggest you have a taste yourself!

Beck - "Loser" - Beck's first hit released back in 1993 this song has become a classic of the era. This is a song that still sounds fresh to my ears all of these years later. Certainly when comparing "Loser" to the so called grunge music of the era it is not hard to tell which one has aged better. As would become Beck's MO "Loser" contains many layers of sound and a fantastic combination of different styles with lyrics weird and fantastical enough to keep you interested on multiple listens.

The Pink Floyd - "Interstellar Overdrive" - I think this is the most insane, most psychedelic song of all time. To me it sounds exactly like a journey into the center of Syd Barrett's mind. Or exactly what I imagine such a journey would sound like. I feel like this song somehow transcends the very barriers of music and becomes something more than merely a song. This is a journey. It's both farther out and farther in than any other song I've ever heard. There are no lyrics because no words could ever really describe where this song goes. This is beyond words. It's mystic. It's mysterious. It's music at it's most experimental and most dangerous. Strap on the headphones and clear your calendar for the next 10 minutes. It's time to go interstellar.
