A Little History of Ill-Treatment Towards Women
By: Danny Chunger

Throughout history, starting from Judeo Christian until present modern day, women was treated and thought as she is a property that has no human rights whatsoever, but only treated as if she is here to exist only to satisfied men’s desire and procreate. In the Judeo Christian text, the book of Judges speaks for itself. There is a story of a concubine that was handed over ,by his husband to a mob, only to be raped, beaten, tortured, and die at the end in the hands of his husband’s doings.# The behavior and attitude of some men against women, in the crimes of rape violence, and even persecution of women, throughout history, somehow religion plays a role.

In the history, where the occult of hunting down witches became very popular and known throughout the colonies of American and Europe, Protestants were the ones who claimed that the women are witches, whom are affiliated with the devil by strange marks in their bodies. #But in reality, it was the ideas of the Protestant Church were the devils, giving the ideas to the common people, blaming on such women, even blaming them on unnatural disaster or order, such as body deformity and sickness. After the witches, or mainly the women who had suffered, they start to have some status. Like also in medieval history, women who were nuns gained much social and spiritual status, through self suffering and martyrdoms.#

There are two alternatives, that Margaret Miles suggest to help women who are victims of raped or abused. Either through rehabilitation, helping and comforting the victims, or prevention of abuse and rape, by telling each other their experience or story, so the ones who are not victim may feel the need and learn to self protect herself. #“It is the duty of men and women in all rape prone societies identified the ideas and images , the attitudes and practices that support, promote, and rationalize violence.” # This practice would not only help to prevent victims but teachings such as these will make individuals to have good moral judgments. If women are describe as the devil’s gateway, causing lust and temptations for men to be doom, must it not, women, who is seen as body, biology, and nature also represents for men everything in themselves that are absent or unknown to them, that discipline and rejecting are the skills to achieve their potential to be pure intellect, mind, and spirit?# If so, then Judeo and Christian priests have ignore this.
